My teams food shoot for Saveur magazine went extremely well.
I’ve realized how important it is for a commercial photographer to have a great team to work with. Not only does it make things easier with regards to the production (i.e. estimates, location scouting, model booking, equpiment renting) it makes the actual shoot so much fun.
We really had a great time shooting and collaborating on this shoot. Not to mention its great to have assistants actually assist you when you need it. Its quite a work out when you’re trying to snap a photograph while holding a fill and trying to style all at the same time.
So i’m not a food shooter. I certainly apreciate food photography because its not as easy as it looks. I don’t wake up in the morning with the buring desire to go out and photograph food; i’d much rather eat it.
What I found most gratifying about this job was working as part of a team. I love having the conversation about what looks best, what is needed and how can we make great photographs. There is a certain kind of creative energy that I thrive on.
Being the Production Coordinator was the second hand man and my role played a great part in the outcome of a great shoot.
I stood at our shoot holding fill cards, silk umbrellas, directing talent, styling food and I couldn’t think of anything else I’d want to be doing. Ultimately, it wasn’t work what I was doing, I was doing what I was born to do; I was embracing my passion for photography and man it feels sooooo good.
